Karen van Zyl is proud wife to Andre, and very proud mother of their daughter, Lisa, who is 2 years old. They live in Kempton Park and operate their businesses on the East Rand.

Karen received her Masters Degree in Play Therapy from the University of Pretoria in 1997 and has since then worked at various Children's Homes in South Africa. Before she fell pregnant with Lisa, she was working as a child therapist and volunteer coordinator at Cotlands, in Johannesburg.

Lisa, & Pikanini Baby Academy, was born in the same month, June 2005. Since then Pikanini has grown to incorporate the following:

They started signing to Lisa, at 8 months, and when Lisa signed back to them at the age of 10 months, they were completely blown away. It gave them incredible insight into her world, and improved her speech & language ability to such an extend that most people can't believe that she is only 16 months old.

Karen would love to share her passion for signing to babies with you and give you the opportunity to use Baby Sign Language as a tool to communicate with your child before verbal speech is possible. It's like magic!
